The Garth Brooks World Tour with Trisha Yearwood
The Lexington shows will mark Brooks’ first performance in Kentucky since May 1998, when he played three shows at the Rupp Arena during the Sevens tour. Coincidentally, his opener for those shows was none other than Yearwood, a full seven years before the two became engaged during a concert in Bakersfield, California.
“For those who show up, I hope we give you a show that makes you forget the ones that were in the Nineties,” Brooks said during a July press conference, which doubled as an announcement for his world tour. Brooks’ long break he said was to allow him to leave the spotlight for more than a decade while he focused on raising his children, and his thanked his fans for their patience in his return to the state.
Garth Brooks is excited about returning to Lexington, as he said in a recent interview on WBUL: “You guys are known for basketball, but in our world you’re known as one of the best places to play.'” Garth has played at Rupp three previous times, the last time in 1998, and every show was sold out.
Garth Brooks’ returns to Rupp Arena after 16 years will take a bit of juggling on the part of fans and the Rupp Arena officials, as there will four Garth Brooks concerts as well as the first University of Kentucky basketball game of the 2014-15 season. More than 100,000 people are expected to come to Lexington’s largest indoor venue on Halloween weekend.
